About Children's Institute

Our Mission

Move research to action by promoting cost-effective public and private investments in our youngest children pre-birth through third grade.

Our Vision and Purpose

Children's Institute envisions an Oregon where every child is prepared for success in school and life.

To meet this goal, we advocate for strategic investments in early education and healthy development beginning with prenatal care.

Children experience their most profound brain development in the first eight years of life. The quality of life experiences during that time sets the foundation for all future learning and development.

Investing early in kids and their families is the most effective strategy for improving long-term outcomes for children.

Our Work

Early Education

Support Ready for School's campaign to improve the lives of Oregon's children and build a stronger economy with wise public investments in high-quality early learning programs.

Best Practices in Early Childhood

Advise lawmakers, government agencies, philanthropic organizations and others on best practices in the field of early childhood development.

Linking Early Education with K-12

Demonstrate how early childhood programs and elementary schools working together can close the achievement gap. At the heart of this work is a 10-year demonstration project designed to influence policy and practice at all levels.
